Are Chiropractic Adjustments Safe?

Chiropractic adjustments are a procedure in which a chiropractor near you uses unconventional means to cure medical conditions with the joints, bones, and muscles. It does not involve medications, surgeries, or any other expected means of medical attention but instead relies on their hands and unique tools to apply regulated pressure, which is also called spinal manipulation, to troubled areas in your body.

The objective is to enhance the alignment of your spine and motion range, it also helps your body to achieve optimal performance by opening up means for your nerve energy to flow freely through your body. It hasn't been established that chiropractic care in SW Calgary can help with other medical conditions that don't affect the joints, bones, or muscles, like cold, asthma, etc. It might even be likened to only a more intense form of massaging to ease body pain.

However, there have been countless reports of partial and full stroke after treatment, and even in some severe cases, death. These unfortunate aftermaths cannot be brushed off as mere coincidences because one of the autopsy reports did read “acute cerebellar infarction due to manipulation of the neck," as featured in "The Washington Post."

Now, chiropractors  have denied that there is nothing like a chiropractic stroke because that would mean causation. Since chiropractic treatments are made for those with pain beforehand, how does the treatment now cause it? It would suffice to say that, cases of stroke occur only when victims already have the condition before the treatment and not vice versa.

Moreover, on the other hand, scores of individuals have had their pain permanently treated with chiropractic care near you, and apart from a day or two of slight pain in treated areas, no adverse side effect is reported.

Now, let's examine the conventional methods for curing pain at our chiropractic clinic in SW Calgary and their side effects.

Pain relievers in the form of medication, like ibuprofen, are by far the most common method for curing pain in joints, bones, or muscle, and this is large because of how effective they are.

As much as this is a piece of good news, it also explains why pain relievers have been known to be abused and in some cases cause certain health conditions that range from stomach pain to ulcers, kidney injuries, and allergic reactions;

Injection of steroids medications directly into the spine is another common way to address pain, but they can also cause infection at the injection site, spinal headaches, nerve damage caused by trauma from the needle at the injection site.

Cases of fevers, increased pain, anxiety, facial flushing, blood sugar ulcers, spikes, sleep disturbances, etc have also been reported from steroid injections.

Apart from adverse effects due to drug abuse, natural reactions to medications, or steroid injections, surgery is also an effective means to cure back pain. However, it is common knowledge that surgeries are mostly expensive, intrusive, and poses a stigma or fear in some cases.

Chiropractic treatment prides itself as a solution to all that but it also is not free from cases of adverse side effects. It is just like almost every other medical solution to even other health conditions: citrus is good for your health but don't let it stay unrinsed in your mouth as that is bad for your teeth.

The only solution is to understand that your health is indeed your wealth and should be subjected to an expert's supervision. You don't try to fix your refrigerator just because it's yours, so don't try to fix your health just because it is your body.

Any chiropractor who isn't ready to discuss your health conditions and extensively share with you the possibilities of treatment is not trustworthy. Start with a credible medical center and follow the instructions of a medical expert. Our team at Calgary Spine & Sport is happy to get you started on your healing journey.
